Savage / Stevens Pump Shotguns

The illustration shown below was scanned off a Savage factory parts list, using factory reference numbers, which are converted to factory part numbers. This is important as about all obsolete parts suppliers use ONLYfactory or closely associated numbers where ever possible so everyone is on the same page.

Note, for some of the older firearms, many over 100 years old, the factories never used what we now know as assembly drawings, but just views of many of the component parts & possibly randomly placed as seen below

  • May 19, 2018 The markings say it is a 'Stevens Model 820B' but it also says 'Savage Arms Corporation, Chicopee Falls Mass., USA.' This would lead me to believe that it was made after 1920, per the Savage Arms website, which states that was the year that Savage bought J. It also says proof tested for 2 3/4 inch chamber.
  • Stevens is a brand of pump-action shotgun produced by the Savage Arms Company. The company began producing Stevens shotguns in 1920, and the design has remained relatively unchanged through the years. Stevens shotguns are available in 12 gauge size as long-barreled sporting guns or short-barreled security and law.

Savage Arms was founded in 1894 by Arthur Savage in Utica, New York. Within 20 years they were producing rifles, handguns, and ammunition. Savage introduced the first hammerless lever-action rifle, the Model 1895, derived from Arthur Savage's Model 1892 rifle initially designed for Colt, and many fine firearm models followed.

There was a previous model, the 520/560 which was a totally different model

The above illustration is for a Stevens 67D series

820b

This firearm series had many changes reflected by differentseries. The basic gun was the Savage model 30 which was more of adeluxe firearm usually utilizing a ventilated rib, takedown barrels & walnutwood. The Stevens / Springfield guns usually were plain solid (nonremovable) barrels & had birch wood. The early models hada push button safety behind the trigger, (as seen above) while the later series utilized atop tang slider safety button (as seen below). It is about impossible to define allthe variations in the small space available here. Original firing pinswere a single part, while the later ones used a 2 piece unit. Operatingslide handles & corresponding bars were changed about 3 times. This series of guns were produced from 1958 to 1989.

Since most of these parts are now long obsolete, the parts listed below are what are currently available as aftermarket parts
